Eye Shadow - Our Top 10 Favorite Tips

At Babe Cosmetics, we live for a great eyeshadow. We love seeing the looks you guys have created with the amazing palettes in our past boxes!

Recently, we have been obsessed with the Doucce Eyeshadow Smudger brush from our March box. This 100% vegan brush “offers high impact function with foolproof precision.” It is specially designed to allow for easy application and the tightly packed bristles are perfect for playing with colors.

Now, just because you have a great eyeshadow brush or an incredible palette doesn’t automatically mean you know what to do with them! We decided it’s time for us to give out some of our favorites tips and tricks for applying eye shadow.

Great news - putting your eyeshadow on correctly really isn't difficult at all. It is just a matter of finding the right technique and your personal style. Don't worry if it takes a few tries to get it right. Here are some tips:

  1. Apply a base coat to the lids of your eyes just as you would do to the rest of your face. You can apply your same face foundation to your eye area or use an eyeshadow primer! This gives you a nice even palette to work with so the product you use will look it's best.

  2. Blend, blend and then blend some more. Try an experiment. Blend one eye and then just use a brush and apply the other eye. You'll instantly know what we’re talking about and you'll never forget to blend again.

  3. If you want dramatic eyes, take your eye shadow brush, dip it in water, and then into the shadow, then apply. It will give you a much deeper, dramatic color.

  4. If you have blue eyes, purple, violet, taupe, gray, deep blue, and black are your go to colors. Funky options include fuchsia, turquoise, and silver.

  5. If you have green eyes, purple, plum, forest green, brown, and khaki are your go to colors. Funky options include light green, gold, and bright purple.

  6. If you have brown eyes, champagne, copper, brown, apricot, khaki, and beige are your go to colors. Funky options include royal blue, tangerine, hand hot pink.

  7. Navy, powder blue, and charcoal seem to work well with any eye color. Fun colors include silver.

  8. If you want your eyes to appear larger, use a light color on the inner corner, and a darker shade in the middle of the eye area. The lighter shadow in the inner corner of the eye will also reflect to make you eyes pop.

  9. Apply your dark shadow only to the eyelids from the lash line to the crease in the eyelid. Apply your medium shadow from just below the eyelid crease to the brow bone.

  10. Highlight along the brow bone. This will define your eye area, amplifying the size of your eyes, and helping your features to stand out.

The best part of makeup is that you can experiment with it. There are no rules you have to follow and you can truly do whatever you feel like doing. But if you do want some guidance, we hope you find these tips helpful. The most important tip we can give is to embrace your look and have fun with it!
